Testing New System now...

Chatzilla

Chatzilla is the IRC client in Mozilla.

What is available on moznet?

Moznet is the mozilla IRC network. It is for Mozilla developers and testers only. If you want to talk about something else, then you need to find a different network. DO NOT ask to trade files. Most questions should be asked in #MozillaZine. To make the process as painless as possible, follow these tips:

If you have a question about creating addons to Mozilla, you may want to try #MozDev. If you are playing with mozilla code, try #Mozilla. When in doubt, use #MozillaZine.

What's with the gaps between some tabs?

You can use your F-keys to switch channels. The spaces match up with the spacings between F keys on common keyboards, to help you work out which key gives which channel.

What are the colours on the tabs?

They show activity in a channel since it was last open. Blue means a join or quit. Green means something was said. Red means something was said to you.

Any neat tricks?

To work out where somebody is from

Type "/whois their nick. One of the lines will look something like:
kirun <chatzilla@m304-mp1.cvx2-a.man.dial.ntli.net> "New Now Know How"

Look at the last part of the name - ntli.net. If this is an IP address (e.g. 192.237.34.19), you want this instead. Now pop over to SamSpade. Type or paste the info into the box for "Do Stuff", and press the button. Look through the details, and tada! You find I'm in the UK. You may think my ISP is NTL, but in this case, it's Virgin, who obviously rebrand the service. This isn't 100% reliable, but you can often catch out people who are lying this way.

Note that some people will object to you finding information on them, so it's a good idea to reserve this for asshats.

Where are the timestamps?

Timestamps are available on mouseover, they appear in the status line. Newer versions also support timestamps in the client. The bug was 112089.

I want DCC!

DCC support is underway. It depended on server socket support.

What's an op? What's a vop? What do the lights next to names mean?

An operator, or "op" looks after a channel. If you are flooding, trolling, or generally making an idiot of yourself, they can kick or ban you. If a channel is moderated, you need to be a vop to speak. Some non-moderated channels give out vops to regulars. DO NOT ask for ops — if you deserve them, you'll get them.

In Chatzilla, ops and vops are shown by little lights in the nick list.

You haven't answered my question! I have something to add!

Use the "contact" link on the left to pester me.

Is there anything else I can read?

Why, yes...
